Buying a home as a single parent can feel overwhelming however, the Family Home Guarantee makes it possible. This Australian Government scheme helps single parents and legal guardians purchase a family home with a deposit as low as 2%, whether it’s a new build or an existing property.

Both first home buyers and previous homeowners can apply. Note, the scheme cannot be used to buy an investment property.

Are You Eligible?

To apply for the Family Home Guarantee, you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident, aged 18 or over.

  • Be a single parent or legal guardian with at least one dependent living with you.

  • Have earned $125,000 or less in the previous financial year.

Property Requirements

  • You may currently own a home, but you must intend not to when settling your new property under the scheme.

  • You must have at least a 2% deposit to contribute toward your purchase.

  • The single parent or legal guardian must be the only person listed on the loan and certificate of title.

Applying for the Family Home Guarantee is simple and can be broken down into three steps:
